<p>The delegation of the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (CIRA) was also present at the Airbus Helicopter booth at Le Bourget for the official presentation of the RACER (Rapid And Cost-Effective Rotorcraft) demonstrator that the Franco-German company is developing as part of the Clean Sky 2 European research programme.</p><p>The purpose of the demonstrator, currently in the design stage, is to develop a compound helicopter (the combination of a traditional rotor and innovative side rotors) capable of ensuring speeds above 400 km/h, a better cost-efficiency ratio and significantly lower polluting and noise emissions.</p><p>The rotorcraft should be completed by 2019, ready for its maiden flight the following year.</p><p>This highly ambitious project brings together the skills and know-how of dozens of European partners, including CIRA who, with Consorzio ANGELA of which it is the coordinator, is developing a complete landing system consisting of a front carriage, two main carriages, and a braking system. This system, in line with the declared objectives of the project, envisages the use of advanced eco-friendly technologies such as electric handling systems and innovative materials to reduce the weight of the equipment.<br></p><br>
